Thank you for Subscribing to Agri Business Review Weekly Brief
Asia Pacific is home to 450 million smallholder farmers that produce more than 80% of the region’s food consumption. Many of these farmers find that farming is insufficiently profitable and inefficient given its small scale and high fragmentation. They largely lack access to suitable technologies, education, and key services like financing and connection to the right buyers. In many cases, farmers observe low yields and poor[1]quality produce which limit their opportunities to sell beyond local wet markets and to improve profitability.
A transition into a new era of farming requires a holistic approach where farmers are put at the center of a closed loop ecosystem, purposefully built to provide them with access to innovative tools and solutions that help to eliminate major inefficiencies and enable a more sustainable crop production. CENTRIGO™ Farming Ecosystem was created to convene a variety of like-minded partners across the food production chain so that farmers have better access to the solutions and information they need. Together with these partners, CENTRIGO™ provides end-to-end offerings that address the major pain points across their farming journey, including financing, agronomic advice, digital solutions, inputs, other services and more critically, connection to the right buyers. This results in a win-win situation that generates tangible outcomes for everyone. "In many cases, farmers observe low yields and poor-quality produce, which limit their opportunities to sell beyond local wet markets and to improve profitability" Among the countries that CENTRIGO™ is currently present in, the food production industry is at different levels of maturity. India, for instance, has a strong presence of large local and multinational food production companies. CENTRIGO™ is partnering with main players to bridge the connection between these companies and smallholder farmers. Meanwhile, the value chain still has significant untapped potential in other countries across the region. With the support of CENTRIGO™, farmers in these markets are now equipped to grow better-quality produce that meets the customized needs of both food companies and consumers. As an example, CENTRIGO™’s horticulture farmers in Bandung, Indonesia, were able to maximize their returns by following an end-to-end program. Besides providing them with financial support and access to market, these farmers were also guided with tools and knowledge to improve the yield and quality of their crops – they were able to minimize wastage at farm level and grow grade A produce with zero rejection, when selling to a local offtake partner. To further develop the ecosystem offerings for smallholder farmers and turn farming into a more profitable business for them, a more coordinated effort across the value chain is needed. CENTRIGO™ is committed to help to modernize and professionalize agriculture in Asia Pacific. We invite players that share our vision to become partners in support of creating the future of sustainable agriculture together.
